In a year filled with unforgettable moments, few stories have captured the imagination of Irish football fans quite like Kerry FC’s remarkable run in the 2025 Sports Direct FAI Cup. From dramatic late winners to historic firsts, the men from the Kingdom defied expectations and brought pride to their county and NexGen Cyber was honoured to be with them every step of the way.
A Cup Run to Remember
Kerry FC’s journey began with a nail-biting second-round clash against Athlone Town. With the clock ticking down and defeat looming, Joe Adams unleashed a stunning 97th-minute free kick to level the game. Kennedy Amechi then sealed the win in extra time, setting the tone for what would become a legendary campaign.
In the third round, Kerry dispatched Cobh Ramblers in a Munster derby, with goals from Cian Brosnan and Adams again proving decisive. The quarter-final against Sligo Rovers was the stuff of folklore. Trailing 3-0 with just 30 minutes to play, Kerry mounted a sensational comeback, dubbed the “Mounthawk Miracle”, with Brosnan, Adams, and Daniel Okwute scoring to secure a 4-3 win in extra time.
Their semi-final appearance against Shamrock Rovers marked a historic milestone: Kerry’s first time reaching the last four of the FAI Cup and their debut on national television. Despite a valiant effort, they fell 6-1 to the champions-elect in Tallaght Stadium. Joe Adams continued his scoring streak, netting in every round of the competition.
